We invite everyone to join the active membership of the Chicago Okinawa Kenjinkai. All are welcome but especially anyone who has an interest in Okinawan culture and traditions. Ethnicity doesn't matter to us as long as you offer your friendship to our cause which is promoting interest in the culture and customs of the uchinanchu people in the Chicagoland area.

Some of the advantages of membership in the Okinawa Kenjinkai are: Quarterly Newsletters sent to your home or email address if you prefer electronic media. Annual New Years Party each March and our Okinawa Picnic during the late summer. Both of these events are pot luck events where members bring traditional foods as well as American favorites. As a member you may also wish to partake in the free lessons we offer our membership in Okinawan style karate, Okinawan Odori (traditional dance), Sanshin (a three stringed island instrament), or Matsuri Daiko where you learn Okinawan eisa drumming. All lessons are held at Mitsuwa Marketplace in Arlington Heights each Saturday beginning at noon.If you join our Okinawa performing group you may also perform with us at any one of several cultural events held throughout the year. Each year we accept applications for a $1000 college scholarship which we award to an eligible member in good standing of our Kenjinkai family. Details are located on our scholarship page if this interests you.Our members are also given a membership directory each year to promote networking through our membership. Inclusion on this list is strictly voluntary as we respect the privacy of our members should they decline to be included on the membership listing.

You might think membership in our organization would be rather expensive given the benefits offered to our membership but actually our annual fees are quite reasonable. Individual memberships are just $15 and families may join for $25. Families are defined as parents and children living together where the oldest child is actively participating in schooling up to the college level. All membership fees are due upon joining and reoccurring membership fees will be collected at our New Years party. If not attending the New Years party fees can be mailed in to us by the published party date each year. We are a not for profit organization and fees allow us to provide services and administration to our membership.
